Maple desserts are a bit underrated, no?
I think that Maple-flavored treats don't quite get the respect that they deserve. I mean, sure. Pumpkin and apple are excellent this time of year. (Or any time of year, really.) But so is maple! Don't put maple in a corner!
If you want to celebrate maple flavor in all of its sweet deliciousness, these blondies are for you.
How did this recipe come to be?
Last year, I picked up a Maple Sea Salt RX Bar and it was so. good. I knew that I needed to create a baked good with those flavors: maple + sea salt. However, fortunately/unfortunately, last Fall I was experiencing some pretty bad morning sickness, so these blondies didn't come into being until now.
Instead of sweetening these blondies with brown sugar only, I used some real maple syrup, too. They're also chock full of pecan pieces that have been candied with maple syrup and sprinkled with some salt. The whole thing is topped off with a hefty sprinkling of flaky sea salt, too.

Salted Maple Blondies
Ingredients
For the Maple Candied Pecans
- 1 cup pecans roughly chopped
- 2 tbs real maple syrup
- big pinch of kosher salt
For the Maple Blondies
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ⅛ teaspoon baking soda
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ cup brown sugar packed
- 6 tbs real maple syrup
- 5 tbs unsalted butter melted
- ½ tbs vanilla extract
- 1 egg
- 2 teaspoon flaky sea salt
Instructions
To make the Maple Candied Pecans
- Toast the chopped pecans in a skillet over medium-low heat for a couple of minutes, or until they begin to smell nutty.
- Add the maple syrup, stirring to coat all of the pecans. Add the kosher salt and stir to incorporate.
- Stirring frequently, cook the pecans and maple syrup until the syrup is no longer liquid-y and appears a bit grainy on the surface of the pecans.
- Spread the candied pecans onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and allow them to cool.
To make the Salted Maple Blondies
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Spray an 8-inch baking dish with cooking spray, then line it with parchment paper, leaving a bit of parchment paper hanging over on the sides. This will allow you to easily lift the blondies out of the pan. Set the prepared dish aside.
- Mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt together in a medium-sized bowl.. Set it aside.
- In another medium-sized bowl, whisk the melted butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla extract together until they are combined. Add the egg and mix well.
- Working in a couple of additions, add the dry ingredients to the wet and stir them together until just combined.
- Fold in the chopped candied pecans and spread the batter evenly into prepared baking pan. The batter will be quite thick.
- Just before popping the blondies into the oven, give them a healthy sprinkling of flaky sea salt in an even layer over the top.
- Bake for 24-28 minutes, or until lightly browned on top/a toothpick comes out mostly clean when inserted into the center.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.

When do you sprinkle the flaky sea salt on top? Couldn't find it in the instructions.

Whoops, thanks for catching that! I just updated the recipe, but you sprinkle the sea salt over the batter in an even layer just before popping them into the oven.
