Frosted Chocolate Brownies

I had a serious craving for chocolate last weekend.  A serious craving for brownies, to be more precise.  A quick search of brownie recipes on Foodgawker led me to the recipe on the blog Stylish Cuisine.  The frosting is what attracted me initially.

You’ll need:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Frosting:

  • 3 tbs cocoa powder
  • 3 tbs butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • splash of water

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.  Grease an 8×8 pan.  Set aside.

In a large bowl, beat the sugar, eggs, and vanilla.  Beat in the butter.  In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.  Slowly mix them into the butter/egg mixture.  Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Once the brownies are done, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool completely.

While the brownies are cooling, make the frosting.  Combine the cocoa powder and butter.  Stir in the sugar, until smooth.  If it’s too thick, add a very little bit of water to thin things out.  If you add too much and need to thicken it again, just add some more powdered sugar.

Frost, then eat!
